Here is an interesting article by Rolling Stone:
Even by conservative estimates, the War on Drugs now costs the United States $50 billion each year and has overcrowded prisons to the breaking point - all with little discernible impact on the drug trade. A report by the Government Accountability Office released at the end of September estimated that ninety percent of the cocaine moving into the United States now arrives through Mexico, up from sixty-six percent in 2000.
Last Week Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said that every child born in the United States should get a $5,000 in the form of a “baby bond”. This bond would help pay for college education or buying a new home when the child reaches 18.
There are roughly 4.1 million babies born in the U.S. each year, and that number is getting larger exponentially. If citizens gave (tax) $5,000 to every child born it would be over $20.5 B-B-Billion! That’s about $70 per US Citizen per year! I can think of alot of things this country can do with $20.5 Billion Dollars, like not take it from us.
Actually, parents should be taxed for having babies. Believe me I’m glad it is not like this, but…The people who chose not to have a baby ends up paying for that child’s education and well-being. The fine folks who thinks it’s fine to squirt out babies every year even though they can’t take care of them just to receive a check in the mail from the government should be fined. It is the parents decision to bring a child in the world, and as bad as it sounds it is their responsibility…Not their neighbors.
I believe we should help our children in this world, but this isn’t the answer. WE can’t continue giving frivolous handouts to everyone. Going back to the saying you can give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day…Teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime. We should be teaching our kids to be self-sufficient, that you’ve got to take care of yourself and that life isn’t always easy.
If anybody deserved an extra $5,000 it would be the older generation, not the babies. The men that fought in WW2 and Vietnam. The women that sacrificed to defeat tyranny. The hippies that protested a faulted government. The ones that we call parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. The are the ones that I would have no problem giving $70 a year to, because they deserve it.
Hiliary-if you ever want to get elected… rethink this idea… please. Maybe one day, but not now.
