Saddam’s Yacht For Sale

Just in time for the holidays…Saddam’s 269-foot mega-yacht is for sale.  The 14-cabin yacht can accommodate 28 passengers and 35 crew members.  The yacht comes complete with gold-tap faucets, a surgical suite and of course, prayer rooms.  The asking price is only $34 million.  A small price for this floating palace of history.

Farm Subsides Misuse - $1.3B to Non-Farmers

Farm

From Washington Post

Apparently the government gives a lot of money for farm subsides to people who don’t even run farms. The subsides last for years even if the land has changed ownership. The new owners aren’t required to grow anything, but still receive payment. The total amount given to non-farm farms, $1.3 billion, accounts for nearly half of the nation’s agricultural subsidy system.

This where I am supposed to say the Government needs to be held accountable for fragrantly misusing taxpayers’ dollars…but I know no one in Washington is listening. (except for you NSA)

The Peter Principle

The Peter Principle

Sometimes, in business and government, employees will be promoted up to their level of incompetence.  At the point where his level of incompetence is reached he’s no longer confident in his abilities and produces less work for the company than he did in the position in which he excelled.

“Once an employee reaches his level of incompetence, in general, he won’t be fired from the position, unless he’s what Dr. Peter dubs a “super-incompetent” — a person who’s actually defined by his mistakes. Instead, the promoted employee is usually mediocre in his new position. He’s able to cover up his incompetence and spends a lot of time doing just that. Most hierarchies don’t have a fail-safe that includes demoting a person who isn’t qualified for a position. The employee is usually left alone or fired. “

The Peter Principle Proven Through Math

Solving for Money, we get:

Work
————– = Money
Knowledge

Thus, If Work is held constant as a positive number (no matter how small!) Money approaches infinity as Knowledge approaches zero.

What this means is:

All else being equal, the less you know, the more you make

10 Businesses Facing Extinction

Newspapers: Some people thought they were through when radio and TV news came about. Even after the fax machine revolutionized offices, some people predicted that everyone would have their news faxed in, since that would be quicker than relying on a newspaper. But the numbers have been falling precipitously since the 1990s when the internet came on the scene. In the past year, the Audit Bureau of Circulations twice has posted drops averaging 2.1 and 2.8 percent over six-month periods. Newsrooms across the country have been hemorrhaging staff.
Odds of survival in 10 years: They won’t disappear; they’ll be on the internet. We don’t recommend startups investing a lot of money into a printing press plant.
